Artists Open Houses Brighton May Fetival 2011

Once again there’s a chance to discover the wealth of artistic talent hidden away amongst these little streets of rainbow coloured houses.

STOP PRESS! Two of the Hanover Art Trail houses have made it to the shortlist of three for best open house in the festival:- Wellington House and The Quebec Art House.

This year in Hanover 14 venues showcasing more than 80 artists will be open as part of the 30th Artists Open Houses Festival every Saturday and Sunday in May from 11am to 6pm, starting on Saturday  May 7th  (check individual venues for exact opening times, list currently being updated).

As these are mainly private homes it gives visitors a chance to view work in the comfort of a domestic setting but as such it means that they don’t generally accept credit cards but cash or cheques with a guarantee card are welcome.

Entry is entirely free and you’ll find each house a unique experience full of art of every variety from painting to jewellery, sculpture to prints, cakes to pots.  There are other hidden treasures too …. gardens, studios, demonstrations of work and you’ll even find a cup of tea and a cake in some venues.  Just look out for the AOH signs.

Hanover is renowned for its many pubs, so why not stop off for some refreshment as you work your way round the trail.  We can particularly recommend two of this years sponsors, The Charles Napier and The Greys, both on Southover Street. The Greys are  exhibiting work by Vincent Donlin during the festival, well worth a look.
